Heirloom Tomato Plants with Two-Toned Fruit
These beautiful heirloom tomatoes are not only tasty and flavorful but are also highly attractive to look at because of the multi-colored stripes inside and out!
Striped tomatoes come in a wide variety of colors. Some are green, yellow, orange or red, but all are good to eat as they are to look at.
The following heirloom tomatoes are listed with days to maturity after transplanting and are indeterminate (vining type) tomatoes unless otherwise stated.
Big Rainbow – 80-102 days. Big Rainbow makes huge 2 pound tomatoes that are bright yellow with pinkish-red streaks throughout skin and flesh. This tasty heirloom is popular for slicing because the marbling is so noticeable.
Big Zebra – 80-90 days. Similar to Green Zebra but with more gold and red, this 8-10 ounce fruit often has three colors streaked through it. These tomatoes are green with deep golden stripes that are often tinted with red highlights and have a rich flavor.
Flame – 80-85 days. Also called Hill Billy, this heirloom tomato is from West Virginia and has gold and red marbling throughout the fruit.
Marvel Stripe – 85 days. These tomato plants produce large yellow fruit with dark red, almost crimson colored stripes and a lightly sweet flavor.
Old German – 75 days. A Mennonite heirloom tomato that is popular in the Ozark region with a plant full of tasty yellow fruits with red spots, speckles and splotches.
Pineapple – 75-95 days. Large 1-2 pound fruits have good, continued yields throughout the season. The gold colored fruits with red streaks throughout are fruity and sweet tasting tomatoes - beautiful as well as delicious.
Striped Roman – A very unusual, sausage shaped tomato with red and orangey stripes. A flavorful medium-sized fruit for fresh eating that is one of the most unique tomatoes you could add to your garden this year.
Tiger Tom – 65 days. An earlier maturing striped tomato, the ‘Tiger Tom’ produces red and orange-yellow tomatoes. A popular container tomato plant from England. It is also another European heirloom that has become popular in the United States.
Tigerella – 65-75 days. Reddish colored tomato with broad golden stripes throughout this is another popular English variety. ‘Tigrella’ has high disease resistance and good yields.
Tiny Tiger – 75-85 days. ‘Tiny Tiger’ is so named because it is a dwarf tomato plant good for containers. It produces sweet orange and red fruit and is a German heirloom variety.
