The Tesselaar Tulip Festival boasts over 1 million beautiful and colorful tulips, live music and delicious international cuisine. A perfect family day out.

Legend has it that tulips are the sleeping cradles of fairies. One thing tulips are is magnificent and the Tesselaar Tulip Festival in Victoria, Australia has over a million on display over 4 weeks during spring.

Every day entertainment includes live music and a magnificent range of food including tasty Dutch treats, such as profiteroles and tulip shaped chocolates. Patrons can pick their own tulips or purchase them freshly cut from plant stalls.

Horse and carriage rides through the tulip fields are available for additional fees and souvenirs are available. Or patrons may simply like to wander the garden display and enjoy the beauty or observe tulip sculptures do their work.

Special Events at the Tesselaar Tulip Festival

In addition to daily events there are a number of special events. These are:

  • Turkish weekend: Celebrating the origin of the tulip, with cultural performances – September 19th-20th
  • Dutch weekend: Celebrating the history of the tulip, with Dutch food, games and entertainment. – September 26th –27th
  • Children’s’ days: Children’s entertainment – September 23rd-24th and 30th
  • Food, wine and jazz weekend: Free wine tasting, music and entertainment – October 3rd-4th
  • Pink Lady day: Charity day, music and entertainment – October 8th
  • Irish weekend: Celebrates the greening of the tulips, music and entertainment – October 10th-11th
  • Senior’s day: Music and entertainment – Every Friday

Tesselaar Tulip Festival is a great family event and is very child friendly and offers entertainment and numerous activities to keep kids happy, including pottery-making, face painting and wandering through the fairy garden searching for one of the seven lost gnomes. Adults will enjoy picking their own tulips and shopping for numerous bulbs and pot plants.

While the Tesselaar Tulip Festival is a beautiful and fun place to explore, with over 100 varieties of tulips, food, drink and souvenir stalls are limited and queuing for everything becomes tedious.

Pricing and Other Information About the Tesselaar Tulip Festival

This year the Tesselaar Tulip Festival will begin on September 16th and run until October 13th. Open daily from 10am – 5pm. Price for entry is Adults AUD$16.00, Concession AUD$12.00 and children under 16 years are free.

Location is the Tesselaar Tulip farm, 357 Monbulk Road, Silvan, Victoria, Australia, near the Dandenong Ranges. Free off street parking is available, the facility has wheelchair access and dogs on leads are welcome.
