» poorcedars - Are my cedars going to make it?

I live in Southeast sask and bought seven emerald cedars last year. I followed all of the planting instructions etc. I wrapped them with burlap for the winter. When I uncovered them this year two were browned off and quite brittle, there was no saving them. The rest of them are brown and brittle on one strip the length of the tree, while the rest of each tree is green and lush. Should I prune off the dead spots?, will new growth come in these areas?,should I fertilize?, Do I need to wrap them every winter? Does anybody know what would have cxaused this. I've seen several other yards around here with what appear to be the same type of trees. Some have grown very well, while others seem to have half of their trees dead. Should I hav bought a different species of tree?
