In this blog post I talk about a few silly, and serious, goals for my garden this coming year.

Feel free to share your New Year's Resolutions with us here - perhaps putting your goals down in black and white will help you meet them.

Blessings, Angela

My resolution is to try to keep my african violets living they are so picky about where you sit them I bought them last summer and when we moved in the fall I set them in a window facing the same direction but now that winter has came it's not possible to keep them in the window because we had to put plastic around the windows I'm wondering if I can place them on the same side of the house will they live even though they won't be receiving any sun?

I managed to overwinter my annual plants by setting them on a table near the sunny windows we also covered with plastic. I used a litle grow light to help augment the amount of light they got. I highly recommend browsing through Susan Walsh's section on Houseplants: http://houseplants.suite101.com/

She even has a great FAQ's article specifically about African Violets: http://houseplants.suite101.com/article....

Hope that helps!

Hi 1renee,
Your violets need bright light in order to thrive and bloom, but not direct sun. So as long as they are in a room that gets bright, indirect sunlight, they should do just fine. In fact, direct sun can burn their leaves. If they aren't getting any bright light at all, there are grow lights you can buy that will help. Please feel free to drop by the houseplants section or contact me directly if you have any further questions! :-)
